Cruise day 90 – PP (celebration day?!)

Morning weigh-in: 92.8kgs

  • Daily GAIN 0.1kg/ 0.22lbs
  • Total lost 19.5kg/42.9lbs

Watercheck – 2.4l

  • oatbran porridge
  • 2x microwaved eggs
  • Cup of tea

  • Leftover savory mince with creme fraiche and a wee bit of salsa
  • Strawberry Muller light

Afternoon snack

  • small bar of cadbury dairy milk (oops!)

  • Ill advised “half way there” celebration meal – a pepperoni pizza

  • 25 min cycle to and from work
  • 1 hr housework!

So I’m posting the next morning after day 90.  I had a pepperoni pizza last night, as a kinda “celebration” for gettng half-way to my goal weight.  Non-serial dieters might not understand this logic – you’re doing really well not eating bad stuff, so to reward yourself, you eat bad stuff.  I know, it makes no sense really.  But there you have it, it’s what I did.

Anyway, within 30 mins of eating the pizza, I was regretting it – on a purely physical level.  I felt bloated and gross.

Within an hour, I had really bad stomach cramps.

And then overnight, I had a REALLY bad stomach reaction – horrid cramps, nasty diarrhoea, almost the worst I’ve ever experienced.

I can tell you, I’m not having pizza again in a hurry.  I’m sure the pizza hadn’t gone bad – it was my body telling me that pizza is not something that it will tolerate in a hurry.

Lesson learned!

I have friends staying today and tomorrow – one of whom I’ve hardly seen since highschool.  I’m not going to eat crazy bad stuff, but I’m not going to force myself to stay 100% on diet either.  I’m kinda scared to eat lots of carby food now, in case I end up poisoning myself again!

  1. Oh Charlotte – me too!
For no reason everthing I wanted (and ate) yesterday was full of carbs and by evening I felt awful. I had terrible stomach pains and felt groggy and tired.

That is a good leason learned as I am off to US on Thursday and intend to stick to low carbs even if I degress a little on the alcohol!

    • YES! Groggy and tired too! I felt myself slipping into a carb-coma, so I forced myself off the couch and away from Mr Darcy (I always watch the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice when I’m by myself in the house) and did some housework.

Then I slept soundly, right up until I was woken by the … ahem… call of nature. More like the YELL of nature!!

  2. Holy crap Charlotte! You are hot on my tail, 92.8 is awesome, I feel like I was only there a little while ago 🙂 You are doing so good with your diet, you hardly ever digress. It’s such a shame that when you did choose to eat something, celebration or not, it made you feel so sick. I was in agony after eating chicken kebab meat, so if it was anything like that i can sympathise with you. Keep soldiering on, you are an inspiration to many xoxo

    • Hehe… not so hot on your tail after the carb-fest last night – I’m back up almost a kilo. Was hoping it would be worth it, but tbh, everything past the first 5 bites wasn’t really that great. I can’t even fathom why on earth I finished it!

Agony – that exactly describes how I felt at 3am last night! Any worse and I would have been contemplating going to A&E (as if I could have left the toilet though…)

And what’s more, my porridge tasted REALLY funny this morning – kinda chemically. I’m wondering if this is just the effect of second day porridge with the new cinnamon mix, or leftover “indigestion” from yesterday?

      • Hmmm, not sure about the taste…I reckon it would be cinnamon.
I definitely understand your pain! I was seriously wondering if I should call an ambulance, and that’s no exaggeration. I was worried coz it was the day after the snowboarding holiday that I had damaged my insides from my big stack! All good now though, we have just learnt our lessons the hard way.

    Hey Charlotte

I’ve had the same symptoms after ‘cheating’ too!!

And I remember when I first started Dukan, when I first had oatbran, I had doubts that I would ever getnused to it because I thought it tasted chemically…now it’s not even there.

    I wonder why that happens??

    • Hmmm, I’ve had the opposite effect – I’ve always loved oatbran (but I buy organic stuff from the local healthfood store, it’s much cheaper) But this morning it tasted horrid! I suspect Laura might be right – it could be the aftereffects of the cinnamon in 2-day-old porridge. I’ll try adding it fresh each day rather than mixing it in when I first make it next time. And I’ll see whether the third tub of it tastes funny tomorrow.

The breadmaker’s getting it’s first proper use after almost 100 days of idleness today – with guests, it’s always nice to have fresh bread! 🙂 I’ll just have to resist.

This feeling ill after carbs happened to me too. All my friends scoffed at my theory which was the same as yours. I believe that after not eating the amount of carbs I was before it will be interesting when it comes time to put them back.
I have not missed the bloated and full feelings that I used to have after eating pre Dukan. In fact that is a huge benefit of this diet. I might be full but I have not felt bloated. Only when I eat carbs do I feel bloated and crampy.
Enough to put you off eating bad things!!!
Keep up the good work Charlotte

  6. Wow, 19.5kg is a lot. You are doing so great !

My guess is that it was the fat that caused the stomach pain, I used to get major stomach cramps after eating pizza, specially pepperoni pizza. Now, 3 weeks on the Dukan and I haven’t had any stomach problems at all. I just feel great 🙂
