Day 244 – Cruise, PP

  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon
  • 2x microwaved eggs
  • a slice of low fat cheddar cheese
  • Mug of Tea

Cinema faux pas

  • medium popcorn


  • 3/4 of a Tesco extra tasty roast chicken
  • a couple of slices of low fat cheddar cheese
  • a fat free chocolate pud with sweetener


  • 25 min walk to and from the cinema (leisurely!)
  • 15 min cycle to and from the supermarket

Today accidentally ended up being a PP day, just cause that’s what we ate, so we’ll do a PV day tomorrow.

Popcorn, I know. Bad.  We went to see Tangled (totally awesome) and J and I partook in the naughtiness together.  Following Dave and Ruth’s advice that if we’re gonna be naughty, at least share the naughtiness.

I felt like I didn’t get enough exercise today.  Will try and get to the gym tomorrow for a good weights session, interspersed with a 40 min walk around the Meadows.  It’s now officially still light at 5pm now – in just two day’s time, sunset will be after 5pm.

Walkies! 🙂

On another note, I realised as I was walking around the supermarket today, that I don’t cook much stuff that I used to cook back when I first started out.  No more home made burgers, no more meatballs, just boring brown mince (I say boring, but it’s actually really tasty.  Just not for every meal.)

I grabbed some lean mince today, left out 1kg and froze 1kg, and I plan on making Fun Stuff with it, like meatballs.  I also intend to experiment with bubble & squeak style veggie/chicken burgers tomorrow night with the leftover tesco roast chicken – any advice or suggestions gratefully recieved! 😉

Other things I’m planning on trying:

  • Glucomannan or Silken Tofu for trying to make some carb-free chocolate puddings.  Those Shapers Puds will be the end of me if I don’t find an alternative.  The Xanthan gum was not a goer – it was just too slimy and gooey for my tastes.
  • On the subject of glucomannan – I hear that Shirataki noodles, made from glocomannan, are basically zero calorie, zero carb and exceptionally high in fibre.  It’d be nice to make a stir fry and chuck some noodles in!
  • CrockPot pizza chicken.  I can get a slow cooker from Argos for under £10.  I think it’s time to make the change, the oven’s too expensive to run all day doing a slow cooking recipe.  Tomorrow is Slow Cooker day! 🙂  Actually, a lot of the stuff from this website looks pretty delectable.

    Hi Charlotte.

    I’m still reading your blogs and happy to see your back in the swing of things. I’m loving the longer nights too. Just thought that you’d be interested to know that on lowcarbmegastore have the Shirataki noodles on offer just now (99p each)and also ‘buy one get one free’ I love their zero carb maple syrup too which I pour over my porridge and also on my baked custard and rhubarb.

    Baked Custard

    Whisk together
    2 Eggs
    2 tsp sweetener
    250mls skimmed milk
    1/2tsp cornflour
    (Flavouring – Hazelnut, coconut, caramel, banana etc) Syrups from lowcarbmegastore

    Bake in a low oven in a bain marie until set.(160c) It takes around 30mins – as soon as a knife in the middle comes out clean – it’s cooked. If it’s not set, cook a bit longer. Leave to cool. Also nice if left in fridge for a while. A bit like creme caramel.
    I have this just about every night. It really hits the spot. Hot or cold 🙂

    The rhurbarb is just stewed in very small amount of water, eginger & sweetener.
