We had a staff meeting that had to run over lunch today, so in order to make her workforce feel better, my boss sprang for pizzas from Pizza Express.  I, of course, pouted to myself at the injustice of it all (not really) and my lovely boss said that she’d pay for me to get a stash of salad ingredients from Tesco and make myself a grand ol’ salad for lunch. Hence the PV day where it should have been PP.  I’ll do two PPs on the weekend to make up for it.

The new sausages from the butchers are a tiny tad disappointing.  I asked for “hot n spicy” but only half as hot as the last batch – so they must have only put in literally half as much seasoning, and the whole batch is a bit bland.  Blarg.  Oh well, I’ll just keep adding salt until we get rid of them, and then be a little clearer with my order next time.

    hello,

well done with the quest, i stumbled across your blog after searching or real life dukan folk. You have really inspired me. just a thought about the sausage thing, how about asking your butcher for pork caul fat, trust me there is hardly any fat there, it is just the membrane used to wrap homemade crevettes/faggots etc. that way you can make the sausage pattie as lean and as spicy as you want, and cook it secure in the knowledge that the meat will stay together. looks very professional too.

i live in glasgow and can get it if i ask the butcher nicely, and in advance. hope this helps.

    • Hi Tig!

Tell me, do you use a sausage making machine for your sausages? How do you do it? Sounds like a lot of mess! 😉

There are lots of Real Life Dukan Folk in Scotland – check out the Devine’s blog, they’re Glasgae based. Glad you found me though! How are you doing with Dukan?

hello, no you don’t need a sausage maker, you just roll a pattie of minced meat/spices etc, wrap it with a bit of caul and cook. That is why i like this method, you don’t need any fancy equipment. The french call them crepinettes, not crevettes (my mistake) there are loads of recipes online.

I am not doing Dukan just yet, I am pregnant and due to pop any day, once I am settled in a few months, and am ready to blast all those extra non baby lbs i have sneaked on, i plan to “do the dukan”.

another thought would be have you tried steaming carb free gyoza? I love these. all you do is blitz raw prawns or chicken in the blender with some ginger/garlic, or just a smudge of green curry paste, roll the mix into balls then wrap in a lettuce leaf and steam for a few minutes. the lettuce leaf can be removed once cooked. I eat these all the time dipped in a soy sauce.

    good luckx

    • Oooh, I love Jaozi! I spent a year in China a few years back (hence the pinyin spelling… 😉 ), they were the special treat I’d have with my friends. SUCH a good idea to steam in a lettuce leaf – we don’t have a steamer, but that could be something that I might need to invest in this weekend… I’ll look into it.

As for using pork caul, I suspect that strictly speaking, it may be too high in fat for Dukan – theoretically, you’re supposed to steer clear of pork altogether (though Pierre Dukan himself has been known to go back on that in private emails to members of his website, from what I’ve heard – it comes down to how lean the pork is.)

Congratulations on the soon-to-be new arrival! I assume that you’ve read the book, and have looked at the particular chapter devoted to pregnancy (I skipped it, so I can’t say I know much about it) but make sure that you have a chat with your doctor about the diet before you start. I’ve spoken to my GP about it and he’s fine with it – enthused, even. But I think that he’s happy to see anyone lose lots of weight and potentially reduce the burden on the NHS. I’m just happy to reduce the burden on my feet when I walk around! 😉

      Good luck to you too!!
