Day 69 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 94.9kgs

Daily LOSS: 1kgs / 2.2lbs
Total loss: 5kgs /11lbs

Watercheck: 1.6l

Brunch

  • 2x mugs of coffee
  • 3 low carb sausages
  • scrambled eggs
  • 3 grilled tomatoes (fresh from the greenhouse!)
  • 2 lean bacon medallions, grilled

Dinner

  • grilled chicken breast with Nandos Portugese BBQ marinade

Exercise

  • Lots of up and down stairs in my house, building flat-pack furniture.

Not much to report today, save for a “HELL YEAH”!  The loss continues. I am pleased. 🙂 I’m going skating tomorrow, so there’s some good exercise in the bag. Though I fear that, given I’ve not skated in a month, my muscles are going to take a beating, which generally means that they’ll be retaining water tomorrow morning as they heal. Och well. I’ve totally missed skating! 🙂

Oh, one last thing – this was supposed to be a PV day, with the tomatoes at breakfast, but it just kinda didn’t work out that way. Our kitchen still isn’t really sorted out properly yet, though we’ve finally got a pantry in so we can start unpacking all the various cooking ingredients which have thus far remained in boxes scattered throughout the hall outside the kitchen. Once that pantry’s fixed to the wall, the cooking ingredients will be back in easy reach, and cooking might become easier again. Hurray!

I’ve had some requests to post photos of the new place – maybe this needs to be done Dukan-style, with before and after photos? 😉 I’ll see what I can do.

Day 34 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 94.8kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.7kgs /1.54lbs
Total loss: 5.1kgs /11.22lbs

Watercheck: 1.8l – coffee, low cal cordial and a diet mojito!

Breakfast

  • Mug of tea
  • 2x microwaved eggs

Lunch

  • grilled chicken thigh pieces with Caribbean spice seasoning

Dinner

  • 2 more microwaved eggs
  • flaxseed & oatbran bread with extra light philly and vegemite

Exercise

  • 20 mins hill walking to see a potential wedding venue up Arthur’s Seat
  • No squats today – my knee is actually not feeling that great

Gaaah! Today was supposed to be a vege day, but it never really happened. We got a lot done today – took Link to the vet for his last round of injections to become an outdoor kitty, went to visit the new house and take various measurements, and went to scope out a possible wedding venue. But cooking a vegetably meal was not top of our list…

Day 33 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 95.5kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.2kgs /0.44lbs
Total loss: 4.4kgs /9.68lbs

Watercheck: 1.5l – tea, coffee & water

Breakfast

  • Mug of tea
  • Ham and cheese omelette

Lunch

  • two microwaved eggs – though one was a double yolker! Thanks go out to one of my work colleagues for giving me that – he knows how excited I was by the prospect of double yolked eggs!
  • fat free fromage frais with cocoa and sweetener

Dinner

  • 2 more microwaved eggs
  • 2 gin and slimline tonics
  • 1 glass of red wine

Exercise

  • 1.5 hours gentle skating practice
  • 33 squats

Today was supposed to be a vege day, but it didn’t really transpire that way. I had a couple of cherry tomatoes chopped up in my omelette, but that was it. I’ll consider doing a couple of vege days over the weekend, depending on how the Scales of Woe are behaving.

It was a super busy day today. I quite literally had meetings all day, and then off skating as soon as I got home. Skating practice was SUPER fun tonight – the girls I skate with are totally awesome, and I’m getting crossovers more and more.

Yes, I know I had alcohol at dinner time – but at least it was slimline tonic! And the eggs helped to absorb some of the alcohol. Honest. Don’t give me that look!! 😉

Day 28 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 95.4kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.5kgs /1.1lbs
Total loss: 4.5kgs /9.9lbs

Watercheck: 1.8l – water, diet coke, & tea

Breakfast

  • Mug of tea
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Afternoon snack

  • 12 mini chicken satay sticks

Dinner (grazing throughout the evening)

  • Another 12 mini chicken satay sticks
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 2 slices of cheese
  • Fromage frais with sweetener and cocoa
  • 1 carrot cake muffin – to test how they turned out, of course… 😉

Exercise

  • 1.5hrs gentle roller derby training
  • 28 squats
  • a whole stack of other strength work – leg lifts, yes-no’s, plank etc

I have some awesome news.

Absolutely amazing. Brilliant. Stupendous, even.

Today, I managed crossovers for the very first time at roller derby practice. All the Wise Owls (ie our coaches) were away in London for the big Edinburgh vs London match this weekend, so we had the whole practice to p!ss about on skates – it was brilliant. Noone yelling at me to do anything I didn’t want to do. OK, so it did make me less likely to push myself, but I DID learn how to do crossovers, by devoting the entire practice to it, under the tutelage of another fabulous skater, Bob. She rocks my world. And now I know what a crossover’s supposed to feel like, I can practice them ALL the time until I can get them EVERY time! Right now I probably manage it one attempt out of 2 or 3. And I can’t do them yet when concentrating on going fast, but I will.

My eating was a bit unstructured today – I had TWO packets of the mini satay sticks, one after practice in the car home (I was HUNGRY!!!) and one more kinda around dinner time. It somehow feels like I’m missing something, like I ate more than I’ve recorded here, but I can’t for the life of me work out what… It could just be that I’m feeling nice and full just now, and didn’t really eat THAT much today. I’m looking forward to a nice big salad tomorrow though, I can tell you! 🙂

Day 23 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 97.1kgs

Daily GAIN: 0.5kgs / 1.1lbs
Total loss: 2.8kgs /6.16lbs

Watercheck:  2.6l – tea and plain ol’ tapwater

Breakfast

  • Mug of tea
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Morning snack

  • 2x low-carb cumberland sausages

Lunch

  • 4x low-carb cumberland sausages
  • 1x chilli beef burger patties

Afternoon snack

  • Fat free fromage frais with sweetener and cocoa

Dinner

  • Chicken salad

Exercise

  • 20 mins cycling to and from work (my average time has gone down – I’m cycling faster!! 🙂 )
  • 40 min walk around the Meadows
  • 10 lunges each leg
  • 23 squats

What the hell? A perfect PP day yesterday, and I’m still up by another half kilo this morning. I’m hoping that Mooday is right and that it’s my scales that are in need of a battery change. Either that, or my body is gearing up for a big Whoosh, because this can’t go on for much longer (surely?)

I tried out J’s scales (like I said to Moonday in the comments, when we moved in together, we suddenly had two of everything!) and they’re saying that I’m way down in the 96’s – indicating that when I do a weigh-in, I’ll be in the 95s in the morning. But the Scales of Woe, even with fresh batteries, are still putting me in the 97s.

We’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to see.

GRRRR!

BTW, another perfect PV day today. I was severely tempted by the biscuits at work (as I usually am when the Scales of Woe flip me the bird in the morning) but I resisted. I’m seeing an inverse correlation between my weight and the number of laps I can manage in the 25-in-5 for roller derby – and I want to get those 25 laps in the five minutes!! only 4.75 laps to make up. Which equals about another 5kgs or so to lose… 😉

Day 22 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 96.6kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.1kgs / 0.22lbs
Total loss: 3.3kgs /7.26lbs

Watercheck:  1.4l – coffee and water

Breakfast

  • Mug of coffee
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Lunch

  • Tesco roast chicken – mostly leg, some bits of breast.

Dinner

  • Small serving of taco mince with greek yoghurt and a bit of salsa

Exercise

  • 50 min walk around the Meadows
  • 10 lunges each leg
  • 22 squats

The Scales of Woe were being right bastards this morning – they were all over the place. They started out at 97.6kgs, which made me a bit irritated, given my perfect day (if anything too little food yesterday) and all that exercise at derby practice. So I gave them another chance, at which point they said 96.1kgs. By this stage, I knew they were playing funny buggers, so I did it one more time – 96.6kgs. Not one to tempt fate, I left it at that.

I’m having another PP day today to make up for the sugary blowout on Saturday night, then back to our regular programming from tomorrow. 🙂

I’ve also been a bit stiff and sore today – lots of hard skating, I guess. I’m back to two practices a week, so that might start bringing about the aches and pains, at least until my muscles re-adjust. I’m also trying to remind myself that muscle pain contributes in no small way to water retention in the muscles. If that’s the case, I’ve got about half a litre in my groin/upper thigh. That bastard’s hurting like a mother ducker.

Also? A perfect PP day today. Feeling happy. 🙂

Day 14 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 97.5kg

Daily GAIN: 0.6kgs / 1.32lbs
Total loss: 2.3kgs / 5.06lbs

Watercheck:  1.9l – water, coffee, diet coke

Late breakfast

  • Mug of coffee
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

No lunch – a late breakfast followed by roller derby practice meant that it just never happened.

Dinner

  • 6 gluten-free cumberland sausages
  • a whole tomato
  • 2 slices of onion
  • a little bit of naughty tomato ketchup

Exercise

  • 60 mins cycling to and from roller derby practice
  • 90 mins roller derby practice

Yep, up on the scales this morning. I wasn’t happy about that. But I knew that I’d have a serious exercise day coming up, so that’ll help knock that one on the head.

Roller derby was tough today! I was sweating like a mother-ducker. Plus I cycled there and back again – I was knackered by the time I got home.

But the good news: every week for the past 7 weeks, when I’ve done the 25-in-5 (ie 25 laps in 5 minutes, which is a minimum requirement to be able to skate with the league) I’ve managed 17 & 1/2 laps. Every week. No matter how hard I try or how little I try, I always just get 17 & 1/2 laps.

But today, it was just a tiny group of us skating – just 6 people left from our original Fresh Meat group who didn’t make it through the last round of minimum testing – and we spent the entire session working on stance, stride and form. We then tried the 25-in-5 again at the end, putting all the things we’d practiced into play (long strides, derby stance – basically a squat 100% of the time, crossovers) and the first time, I managed 19 & 1/2 laps!! Then, the second time we tried it, I got TWENTY LAPS!! I’m so freaking excited. I feel like Derby might not be out of the realms of the possible after all.

So, just before I brushed my teeth to go to bed, I did a cheeky weigh-in. I’m exactly the same weight now as I was this morning – you know what that means for tomorrow’s weigh-in, right? 😉

Day 13 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 96.9kg

Daily LOSS: 0.6kgs / 1.32lbs
Total loss: 2.9kgs / 6.38lbs

Watercheck:  3.3l

Breakfast

  • Mug of coffee
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Lunch

  • 6 slices of ham
  • 8 mini chicken satay sticks

Afternoon snack

  • 3 mini kabana sticks
  • some delicious, very very non Dukan-approved cheese.

Dinner

  • 350g grilled chicken thigh fillets

Exercise

  • 40 mins hard cycling to and from today’s Roller Derby bout.
  • 35 mins brisk walking around the Meadows

So apart from the cheese, I had a very very good day.  Post dinner, I’m feeling incredibly full – so even though I had an almost perfect PP day, I have this weird feeling that I’m going to be up on the Scales of Woe tomorrow. Not to worry – it’s all going in the right direction in the long term. 🙂

The Roller Derby bout today was incredible – what a nail biting game! Right down to the wire, our team was 3 points behind, scored what looked like 3 points to tie the game in the last jam of the bout, but it turns out they only got 2 points and lost by ONE POINT!! But it was an incredibly well-played bout – hats off to all the players! 🙂 I freaking love this game (even if I can’t play it!)

I’d also like to point out that the traditional bake sale for the bout was so unbelievably tempting. I could smell the wafts of lovely, muffiny, brownie-ie cakey goodness drifting past me as I checked people’s tickets as they went through the door. I resisted, however, and chowed down instead on the ham and chicken in my bag, later on. Being a meat-eater at a roller derby bout is not an easy thing – there’s a much higher proportion of vegetarians and vegans there than in the Real World.  I had one girl who’s just gone vegan completely turn her nose up at me – she was quite rude! Fortunately rudeness is not a common trait in Derby, people are generally lovely.

Tomorrow I have my first session back on skates since the minimums test three weeks ago. We’re supposed to be having one-on-one sessions for all the people who didn’t pass minimums – there aren’t that many of us. I’ve heard mixed reports of what’s going to be happening tomorrow, but I’m hoping that they’re going to let me work on the stuff that I know I need to pay lots of attention to – the main thing being crossovers. I STILL can’t do them. Here’s hoping!

Day 10 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh-in: 95.3kg

Daily LOSS 0.6 kgs / 1.32lbs
Total loss 3.6 kgs / 7.92lbs

Watercheck 2.0ll

Brunch

  • 3x microwaved eggs
  • 3x low carb sausages
  • oatbran porridge

Post-training snack

  • peach oatbran muffin (omg so needed!)

Dinner

  • Chicken salad
  • Chocolate shapes pud

Exercise

  • 2 hours utterly gruelling Roller Derby practice

Wow, Derby practice today was TOUGH.  By the end, my pony tail was soaked all the way through to the tips, and my pusher foot blister was faithfully back.

When I came back from practice, I was hungry! and TIRED!  I basically gobbled up my salad, then J’s leftover salad, and then slept on the couch for like, 3 hours before dragging myself out of bed to write this blog entry and get myself to bed.

But despite the fact that I didn’t eat my normal amount today, and worked really hard this afternoon, I have a sneaking suspicion that I’m not going to see another loss on the scales tomorrow – PV day today, coupled with being up at “normal” time tomorrow morning – I suspect that double whammy will see me up a bit in the morning.  Just my prediction.

And now, I’m off to bed for some much needed zzzzs.

Day 9 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 95.9kg

Daily LOSS 0.2kg / 0.44lbs
Total loss 3.0kg / 6.6lbs

Watercheck 1.6l including tea, diet coke and a gin and tonic

Breakfast

  • Oatbran porridge
  • 3x microwaved eggs
  • 3x low carb sausages
Lunch
  • A gin and slimline tonic
Dinner
  • 2x grilled chicken breast

Exercise

  • 45 mins walking around town running errands
I’ve had a far too busy day today to think about food – we went to the jewellers to see the wax model of the engagement ring, and then I ran errands all over town.  Home again briefly before heading to a meeting to talk about websites with the girls who administer the website for my roller derby league (they need a new one, and I’ll be putting it together for them.) Then back to my place with one of my new fellow web committee friends to make some much needed changes to their current website, and THEN I’ve been working on the new website solidly since then – a solid five hours work.
I barely noticed when J put a bowl of chicken down in front of me – I was bad and ate while working, but at least I was too engrossed to get up and have anything carby that might have been beckoning! 🙂
Roller derby practice tomorrow – and one of my other fellow web committee friends has lent me a set of “grippier” wheels like the ones I tried last night.  Apparently women of a larger frame have a lot of difficulty doing certain moves on skates when they’ve got slippy wheels on, so I’ll be interested in seeing how my progress goes tomorrow with these new wheels.
