A Very Good Day. Well, aside from the muffins and their excess oatbran index. Not to worry – aside from that I was a veritable angel all day.

I’ve been working on my CV all evening, so no time for nattering on the blog, I’m afraid. Up on the scales, but no biggie – I’m always up on a Monday, due to the early-ness of the weigh-in compared to the day before. I’m still down a kilo from where I was this time last week, so you’ll hear no complains from me.

Off to bed with me now… 🙂

Day 27 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 95.9kgs

Daily GAIN: 0.6kgs /1.32lbs
Total loss: 4.0kgs /8.8lbs

Watercheck: 2.1 – diet coke, tea, and some diet coke with vodka

Breakfast

  • Mug of tea
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Morning oops

  • a small handful of Doritos from the (open) bag that J had left in the pantry

Lunch

  • 5 Sainsburys hot & spicy roast chicken thighs (with the skin removed)

Afternoon snack

  • 12 mini chicken satay sticks from Sainsburys

Dinner

  • 4 beef olives with a slice of cheese
  • Fromage frais with sweetener & a little cocoa

Exercise

  • 1hour 5mins hard walking, plus a couple of hours gentle walking around town.
  • 27 squats – one set of 13, one set of 14.

I walked everywhere today. I feel well exercised. But I’m feeling a little annoyed that my Perfect PP Day was sullied by the handful of Doritos.  Before you all start saying “you must get rid of all the junk food in the house!” I must point out that it’s not fair for me to ask J to forego junk food when I’m denying it to myself. And to ask him to squirrel it away out of sight just feels childish and wrong. I need to self-regulate better, there’s nothing else for it.

It was a small handful of Doritos, and I did walk for hours today. And I did my squats too. I was a bit lax about them yesterday, but I know they make a HUGE difference to my skating!! But I think I need to be realistic about this “one extra squat per day” thing (ie today’s Day 27 and therefore I must do 27 squats). Once I get to Day 100, I’m going to have to make sure I space them out throughout the day – like 10 squats in the morning before my shower, 10 at morning tea, 10 at lunch time, 10 when I get home from work and 10 on my walk. Otherwise I’m just going to get bored – and SORE! But that can come later, I’m happy doing them all at once for now. And I’m going SUPER low. The next challenge is to do them with my roller skates on!! That’s not so easy… I think it will involve me “switching on” my core a bit more, to remain upright. Which can only be a good thing, because you need insane core strength to be a roller girl. I can’t wait to see how this effects my skating tomorrow at practice!! 😉

Also, just to explain, I’m doing two PP days to make up for the two PV days I did yesterday and the day before.

Day 24 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 96.3kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.8kgs /1.76lbs
Total loss: 3.6kgs /7.92lbs

Watercheck:  2.7l – tea, coffee, low cal cordial and 1.5l of water

Breakfast

  • Mug of tea
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Morning snack

  • two breasts worth of chicken nuggety bites

Lunch

  • Tesco roast chicken – mostly leg, some bits of breast.

Dinner

  • Surf & Turf – a sirloin steak and a lightly smoked salmon steak. NOM!
  • Fromage frais with sweetener & a little cocoa

Exercise

  • 20 min cycle to and from work
  • 30 min walk around the Meadows
  • 10 lunges each leg
  • 24 squats (every day, these get easier, and I go deeper and deeper into the squat. Today I could feel the grass on my bum, I was going so low!)

THANKYOU, Scales of Woe. It’s about time. Perhaps I should start calling you Scales of Indifference, cause there’s no joy quite yet.  Go have a chat with Moonday’s scales, they know how to treat a girl … I think, however, that a battery change later, and we’re back on track. I didn’t weigh myself on J’s scales – that’d have been too much of a tease, because I know they’ll have me in the 95s by now.

Today was a seriously hard day for carb cravings. I had to help prepare for, and then clean up after a big meeting at work, and this included arranging biscuits (ie cookies) on a plate, and packing away chocolate brownies into a tupperware container afterwards. God, it was torture. I actually feel physically tight in my chest when I think about all that sugar – I’m such a sweet tooth, and about the only place I get any sweet from these days is my porridge and my fromage frais.

So you can imagine why I had a minor freak out this afternoon when I realised that we’d run out of Fromage Frais. NO SWEET FIX?!? EEEEK!! You can’t get it anywhere near where I live, and I don’t have my full drivers licence yet. J very kindly agreed to drive out to one of the big Tescos on the outskirts of town, and I stocked up on 8 LARGE TUBS of fromage frais. J started laughing from about the point where I put the fourth one in the basket. He’s used to my brand of crazy by now, bless his little heart.

I get through about 400ml of fromage frais per day (if I have an left) so I go through it pretty quickly. But I absolutely loves it, and I’m convinced that it really helps with the losses. Any day that I’ve missed it out in the last week, I’ve been up on the scales (even on perfect days.) The experiment continues.

Also – I’d forgotten how much I lurve salmon. I shall have to have more. 🙂

Day 23 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 97.1kgs

Daily GAIN: 0.5kgs / 1.1lbs
Total loss: 2.8kgs /6.16lbs

Watercheck:  2.6l – tea and plain ol’ tapwater

Breakfast

  • Mug of tea
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Morning snack

  • 2x low-carb cumberland sausages

Lunch

  • 4x low-carb cumberland sausages
  • 1x chilli beef burger patties

Afternoon snack

  • Fat free fromage frais with sweetener and cocoa

Dinner

  • Chicken salad

Exercise

  • 20 mins cycling to and from work (my average time has gone down – I’m cycling faster!! 🙂 )
  • 40 min walk around the Meadows
  • 10 lunges each leg
  • 23 squats

What the hell? A perfect PP day yesterday, and I’m still up by another half kilo this morning. I’m hoping that Mooday is right and that it’s my scales that are in need of a battery change. Either that, or my body is gearing up for a big Whoosh, because this can’t go on for much longer (surely?)

I tried out J’s scales (like I said to Moonday in the comments, when we moved in together, we suddenly had two of everything!) and they’re saying that I’m way down in the 96’s – indicating that when I do a weigh-in, I’ll be in the 95s in the morning. But the Scales of Woe, even with fresh batteries, are still putting me in the 97s.

We’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to see.

GRRRR!

BTW, another perfect PV day today. I was severely tempted by the biscuits at work (as I usually am when the Scales of Woe flip me the bird in the morning) but I resisted. I’m seeing an inverse correlation between my weight and the number of laps I can manage in the 25-in-5 for roller derby – and I want to get those 25 laps in the five minutes!! only 4.75 laps to make up. Which equals about another 5kgs or so to lose… 😉

Day 22 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 96.6kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.1kgs / 0.22lbs
Total loss: 3.3kgs /7.26lbs

Watercheck:  1.4l – coffee and water

Breakfast

  • Mug of coffee
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Lunch

  • Tesco roast chicken – mostly leg, some bits of breast.

Dinner

  • Small serving of taco mince with greek yoghurt and a bit of salsa

Exercise

  • 50 min walk around the Meadows
  • 10 lunges each leg
  • 22 squats

The Scales of Woe were being right bastards this morning – they were all over the place. They started out at 97.6kgs, which made me a bit irritated, given my perfect day (if anything too little food yesterday) and all that exercise at derby practice. So I gave them another chance, at which point they said 96.1kgs. By this stage, I knew they were playing funny buggers, so I did it one more time – 96.6kgs. Not one to tempt fate, I left it at that.

I’m having another PP day today to make up for the sugary blowout on Saturday night, then back to our regular programming from tomorrow. 🙂

I’ve also been a bit stiff and sore today – lots of hard skating, I guess. I’m back to two practices a week, so that might start bringing about the aches and pains, at least until my muscles re-adjust. I’m also trying to remind myself that muscle pain contributes in no small way to water retention in the muscles. If that’s the case, I’ve got about half a litre in my groin/upper thigh. That bastard’s hurting like a mother ducker.

Also? A perfect PP day today. Feeling happy. 🙂

Day 21 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 96.7kg

Daily GAIN: 0.7kgs / 1.54lbs
Total loss: 3.2kgs / 7.04lbs

Watercheck:  1.5l  – tea, water, sugar free cordial and a chocolate skinny cow

Brunch

  • Mug of coffee
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Dinner

  • 1 grilled chilli beef burger patty
  • 1.5 chicken breasts worth of chicken nuggety bites
  • 3 grilled cumberland sausages

After dinner

  • Fat free fromage frais with liquid sucralose and cocoa
  • Skinny Cow hot chocolate

Exercise

  • 1.5 hrs roller derby practice
  • 21 squats

Yep, after my sugar-laden blowout last night, what could I expect? Not to worry, I’m going to ignore it as an aberration and continue along as I’ve been going.

Roller derby practice today was pretty good – I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of actually skating properly. All the squats and lunges I’ve been doing over the past week have really paid off – I can get down low on my skates now, in “derby stance” which gives a lot more power for skating fast. We did our “25 in 5” again a couple of times today, and I managed to get 20 & 1/4 laps in the five minutes. That’s a 1/4 lap improvement on last week, and a 3 & 1/2 lap improvement on my average over the past 6 weeks. I feel SO much better about Derby these days, though I’m hurting a bit this evening.

I also pulled a muscle in my … ahem … my upper thigh on Friday night at practice (ok ok, it’s my groin muscle – are you happy?) so I’m pretty pleased with the number of laps I managed, despite the groin injury.

Onwards and downwards! 🙂

Day 20 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 96.0kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.3kgs / 0.66lbs
Total loss: 3.9kgs / 8.58lbs

Watercheck:  Too much alcohol, not enough water…

Brunch (a full cooked breakfast, yum!)

  • Mug of tea
  • 3 gluten free low carb sausages
  • scrambled eggs
  • a grilled tomato
  • crispy bacon with all the fat cut off
  • Oatbran & flaxseed toast

Afternoon snack

  • Cheese crisp! (nom!)

Dinner

  • Chinese meal, with no rice or noodles
  • Chicken wings for starters, which I didn’t realise came in batter. Ugh. Not proper Chinese cooking – it was Scottish chinese cooking. Never going back to that place again. I ate it anyway, I was super hungry!

Bad stuff

  • Too much vodka & bourbon, but at least with diet mixers.
  • A whole lot of sweeties

Exercise

  • 5 games of laser tag
  • lots and lots of dancing out on the town

OK, so I managed to get down to my lowest weight yet on the reboot, and then ruined it all by going a bit crazy at a night out with my Derby girls. I had chinese with some friends (worst restaurant ever – don’t ever go to Xanadu in Edinburgh!) skipped the rice and noodles, but had to eat the chicken wings I’d ordered which were covered in batter.

By the time we’d arrived at the lazer tag place, I’d had a half bottle of red wine, and was feeling adventurous, so I somehow ended up going on a bit of a sugar fix – there were bags of sweeties at the laser tag centre, and I went a bit crazy, gobbling jelly beans. Within 5 minutes, I’d hit the roof on a sugar high. Then by 15 minutes in, I was feeling a bit sick. I used up all that energy running around shooting people with my laaayyysrrrrs (pew pew, DIE GREEN TEAM!) but it was not a Good Idea.

After that, we went out on the town and danced until 3am at Bannermans (I love that pub!) before stumbling home. I was determined that if we walked fast, we’d get home sooner (despite the fact that I was starting to hurt all over) so I forced J into a power walk. We stopped by a kebab place on the way home, and fortunately they had no chicken doner left or I might have been tempted by that too – I have a real weakness for chicken doner meat… But thanks goodness, there was none, else I’d have been up more on the scales the next day than I already was. But that’s a story for the next post. 😉

Day 19 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 96.3kg

Daily GAIN: 0.2kgs / 0.44lbs
Total loss: 3.6kgs / 7.92lbs

Watercheck:  1.8l

Breakfast

  • Mug of coffee
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Lunch

  • 5 gluten free cumberland sausages
  • Chicken nuggety bites (omg so full now!)

Afternoon snack

  • Fat free fromage frais with liquid sucralose and cocoa

Dinner

  • packet of shop-bought chicken breast pieces

Exercise

  • 25 mins cycling to and from work
  • 1 hr skating (during a two hour skating session – I spend half my time stretching, standing still practising stuff, so only 1 hour actual skating…)
  • 19 squats

*blogging from the next day*

I was a bit irritated at the Scales of Woe yesterday. And at myself. Note to self, skipping dinner and replacing it with beer and cider is not good.

However, I’m starting to see a pattern emerging – a five-day cycle (much like I saw this time last year) of losses, staying steady, then up again before another loss. Granted, 3 cycles hardly makes it a statistically significant pattern yet, but I’ll keep an eye on it. To see what I mean, have a look at the graph on my About page.

(and because I’m blogging from the future, I can say: there was a drop on the scales the next day. Only 0.3kg, but still the lowest I’ve been since my reboot – yay!)

Day 18 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 96.1kg <– at least it’s not up! 🙂

No daily change
Total loss: 3.8kgs / 8.36lbs

Watercheck:  2.4l coffee, water, pear cider and beer. oops.

Breakfast

  • Mug of coffee
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Lunch

  • Chicken salad

Afternoon snack

  • Fat free fromage frais with liquid sucralose and plain cocoa (I love this so much!)

Dinner

  • Bottle of beer and a pint of pear cider
  • late night slice of ham with XL philadelphia

Exercise

  • 25 mins cycling to and from work
  • another 45 mins on the bike to and from an event with friends in the evening

Uhhhh… Don’t scold me about the bottle of beer the pear cider for dinner. All there was to eat was pizza! I was out with friends and there was NO Dukan friendly options. So I decided that alcohol would be better than pizza – at least there was no fat-carb interaction going on – I just went with pure carbs. Mmmm-mmmmmmm. 😉

Besides, by the time I got home (around 10pm) it was too late to have anything to eat except a slice of ham and some philly – just in time to brush my teeth and go to bed shortly after. Like, about now. G’night! 🙂

Day 17 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 96.1kg *rubs eyes* what?! YES!!

Daily LOSS: 0.7kgs / 1.54lbs
Total loss: 3.8kgs / 8.36lbs

Watercheck:  2.8l

Breakfast

  • Mug of coffee
  • 3 microwaved eggs
  • Oatbran porridge with cinnamon

Lunch

  • Taco mince with greek yoghurt and a bit of salsa

Afternoon snack

  • Fat free fromage frais with liquid sucralose and lemon essence

Dinner

  • 2x homemade beef & pork burgers
  • 2 gluten free Cumberland sausages
  • Fat free fromage frais with liquid sucralose and plain cocoa

Exercise

  • 25 mins cycling to and from work
  • 30 min walk around the Meadows
  • 10 lunges each leg
  • 17 squats

I could hardly believe my eyes on the scales this morning. I shuffled them around. I cleaned the feet. I carefully lined them up with the tiles in the bathroom that I use to ensure that they’re consistently placed on the uneven Edinburgh tenement floor. Still the same result: 96.1kgs – HELL YEAH!! I’d call that a whoosh. Whether it’s just naturally in the rhythm of things or whether it’s the fromage frais doing its work, we’ll have to wait and see.

I wasn’t really feeling like walking today, but managed to get out of the house anyway. So my walk wasn’t as long as I’d have liked, but by the end of it I was just glad to get home – I’m a bit knackered…

I have a sneaking suspicion that I’ll be up on the Scales of Woe tomorrow morning – I don’t believe I can get that good a loss and not have a bounce the next day… 😉
