Dukan Diet – Year Two

Well… as of yesterday, I’ve been on (and off!) this diet for a year.

Let’s see how things have gone.

Days 1-130 – rapid weight loss.  Loving the Dukan Diet. Very committed. Lost more than I thought was possible in such a short time

Days 130-160 – much slower weight loss.  Losing the battle against the Carb monster.  Darkness falling, interrupting my intended walking regime.  Finally got down to the high 80s before the tide turned against me. Lowest weight I can find recorded is 88.5 kgs on my last birthday.

Days 161(ish) – 365 – up-down-up-down-up-down.  I’d gain a bit, get scared, lose it all, gain a bit more, lose it again, absolute yo-yoing.  But the average has been creeeeeeping up, to the point where I’m embarrassed to admit that I was too scared to step on the scales this morning.  I’ve been eating absolute crap. I’ve not been exercising. I’ve been feeling too guilty to post anything, cause you people keep leaving all these lovely messages like “you’re so inspiring, Charlotte!” Not a complaint, you’re all lovely, but I’ve not been feeling very inspired.

I think having a blog like this is a bit of a mixed blessing.  It’s been really good to keep track of my progress, but as the number of daily hits and subscribers grow, I get more and more self conscious, and more aware of the fact that if I post an absolutely honest account of what I’ve eaten in a day, there’d be a lot of people out there who’d either say “she’s not doing the Dukan Diet!” (which I’ve not really been consistently since November) or “oh, it’s ok that I eat Bad Food X on Dukan, cause Charlotte’s doing it.”

DON’T follow my example! If you want to see a proper Dukan Diet, go look at what I was doing pre November last year.  Please ignore the floundering I’ve been doing since then. It’s really embarrassing.

So.  A warning.  Tomorrow I’m starting this diet again. I’m re-starting my numbering system.  I’m resetting my starting weight.

It’s gonna be Dukan Diet, 2.0.

Dukan Diet, the Reboot.

In the spirit of the restart, here’s what I ate today:

Breakfast

  • Flaxseed & oatbran bread with extra light philly and vegemite
  • Mug of tea

Lunch

  • Chicken with Nandos seasoning
  • 1 microwaved egg

Afternoon snack

  • 2 microwaved eggs

Dinner

  • Chicken with Nandos seasoning
  • Shapers fat free chocolate pudding
Exercise
  • 25 mins cycling to and from work

    Good for you Charlotte.
How do you microwave the eggs.
    Thanks,

    • Hi Michele,

      1) Crack the eggs into a coffee mug, pierce them with a teaspoon
      2) put the mug in the microwave for about 30 seconds, listening carefully – if you hear bubbling and popping, take the eggs out and give them a swirl.
      3) keep cooking the eggs, checking them every 20 seconds or so. Swirl them every time you check them, to separate the white from the edges
      4) once the white is about half cooked, I like to give them a good stir with a teaspoon. I also like to season them at this point – I use salt and pepper, and stir it in well.
      5) keep cooking the eggs, stirring each time you check them. They can go from sloppy to very well cooked in the space of about 15 seconds, by the end. I like em sloppy! 🙂

      Enjoy! 🙂

  2. Welcome back! Don’t feel stressed about the blog. We all go through ups and downs and sometimes almost give up. You’ve done well and as i’ve always been saying, you’re inspiring! You worked soo hard on yourself to get where you are! It’s good to have you back and hopefully we can encourage each other through it all. I don’t even think i went more than a month of Dukan! Almost gave up. But i’m back and more determined!

    • Thanks Julie!

I’m feeling more determined now too. This week is the beginning of my “I Must Walk Every Day” rule that I did so well with last year.

  3. I agree with everything Julie wrote. Your blog is inspiring not only because of the progress you’ve made, but because of your honesty in sharing what’s going on. As a new Dukaner, I don’t want to hear a sugar-coated version of what the diet is like — that would only make me feel terrible in comparison. I want to hear what it’s really like — that it’s hard, that people have ups & downs, and that you need to fit it into your life, rather than having your life revolve around the diet. Your blog is great, Charlotte…I hope you keep it up!

    • Hi Vicki,

Thanks for the lovely words – You can be sure I’m not going to sugar coat anything. This diet is great, and really works, but like anything, you need to form good habits to stick to it, and good habits take time and determination to form, but are easily broken. Keep it up! 🙂

  4. It takes more courage to do what you’ve done than alot of other blogs ive seen where you can see things tail off even after only a month. You know you can do it because you have before. I really appreciate your dedication in writing your blog for as long as you have (and hopefully will continue). Youve touched alot of peoples lives. You know your not alone – were all in this together. You inspired me to start my own blog with your honesty, humour and realism. Your progress log is a God-send. A new beginning is probably just what you need and im delighted your back x

    • Hullo Miss!

God, will you all stop saying such nice things? 😉 Seriously though, thanks. I feel a bit less embarrassed to report on my recent poor progress. Which is not to say that I’m not embarrassed by the progress itself, leading up to the end of the first year. But less embarrassed to talk about it, at least. What is it they say, admitting you have a problem is the first step towards solving it? 😉

  5. Yay Charlotte! Keep on going! Like others have said, I really appreciate that you continue to blog both your success and setbacks – and I’m rooting for you! Thanks so much for your email, I figured out my spreadsheet problem – I don’t open that email very often, so sorry I took a while to get back to you! Remember that even though you regained some weight, you are still a lot lighter and healthier than when you began 🙂 You are inspiring 🙂
