Charlotte’s Dukan Diet is moving!

Hi folks!

I have made the move to fully self hosted blog, over at charlottesdukandiet.com. As a part-time web developer geek, I was getting frustrated with WordPress not letting make the tweaks to my blog as I wanted.

Also (as you’ll read in the latest post on my new blog) I’ve been really crap with Dukan lately. I’m hoping that having my own self-hosted blog will help get me enthused about the diet, especially at this time of year.

So head on over to my new website. I’ll be shutting this blog down for business soon. Closing off the links, seeing if I can arrange redirects for a while until Google learns what to do. Β All my content from this site has been exported over there, comments, photos, everything, so there’s nothing missing. It’s the same experience, only better, cause I get to do fun things like design my own swirly backgrounds… πŸ™‚

Day 74 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 94.7kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.2kgs / 0.44lbs
Total loss: 5.2kgs /11.44lbs

Watercheck: 1.5l

Breakfast

  • mug of coffee
  • oatbran porridge with sweetener

Lunch

  • 2 breasts of chicken
  • microwave steamed broccoli, asparagus and cherry tomato with a little soft goats cheese mixed in

Dinner

  • Fillet steak with steamed vegetables and a red wine reduction.

Exercise

  • 40 mins cycling to and from work

OK, so we’re heading back down in the right direction. Phew. The leg’s feeling a little better, so I pushed a bit harder on my cycle to work, and took an alternate route home, just for the fun of it – I felt like exploring. It didn’t take me that much longer, but I found new things, yay! πŸ™‚

I am on a steamed veggies kick today. Steamed vege for lunch, steamed vege for dinner. I can’t be trusted with seasoning a steak (I always make it too salty somehow) but fortunately J cooks the best steak ever. We can’t wait to get a BBQ! EVERYTHING will be bbqed when we get a BBQ. We just need to find the perfect BBQ. Any suggestions? I was thinking about looking for a hybrid gas + charcoal, so that we have the option of both/either if we want – has anyone ever had any experience with a hybrid before?

Day 73 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 94.9kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.1kgs / 0.22lbs
Total loss: 5.0kgs /11.0lbs

Watercheck: 2.3l

Breakfast

  • mug of coffee
  • oatbran porridge with sweetener

Lunch

  • Grilled chicken thigh pieces marinated overnight with Nando’s portugese BBQ marinade and caribbean curry seasoning (omg yum!)
  • 2x low carb beef burger patties

Dinner

  • Half a sainsbury’s roast chicken

Exercise

  • 40 mins cycling to and from work – still not pushing very hard, as my foot hurts (still!)

Day 72 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 95.0kgs

Daily GAIN: 0.6kgs / 1.32lbs
Total loss: 4.9kgs /10.78lbs

Watercheck: 2.3l

Breakfast

  • mug of coffee
  • oatbran porridge with sweetener

Lunch

  • Chicken salad

Dinner

  • More chicken salad

Exercise

  • 40 mins cycling to and from work – to work with a fierce headwind, and from work with a glorious tailwind.

GRRR! Up again, that makes me irritated. Though I think that Sandi and I have agreed that there’s a temporary glitch in the laws of physics which have made it so that gravity is a bit heavier today – we were both up on our respective scales.

I’m politely ignoring this glitch though. It did, however, force me back on my bike because a) biking is easier than walking on this gimp leg and b) almost Β£20 round trip for a taxi to and from work is too wasteful to contemplate. Hopefully the added exercise will provide results on the scales in the morning.

Day 71 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 94.4kgs

Daily GAIN: 0.1kgs / 0.22lbs
Total loss: 5.5kgs /12.1lbs

Watercheck: 2.3l

Breakfast

  • mug of coffee x2
  • oatbran porridge with sweetener

Lunch

  • Grilled chicken thigh fillets with Nandos Portugese BBQ marinade
  • low carb burger patties
  • leftover stirfried cabbage from last night (it needed eatin’!)

Dinner

  • 3 more low carb burger patties

Exercise

  • Nothing – need to rest the leg injury.

I suppose I couldn’t have expected the fabulous losses to continue forever. One must always have bounce-backs. πŸ™‚ It’s amazing how quickly I stop needing cookies from the kitchen at work though – I hardly give them a passing glance, though if I were to have one, just ONE, it’d be all-over-red-rover.

Leg’s hurtin’ abit still, but it’s all good. I need to make sure I don’t aggravate it, else I won’t be able to skate next Sunday, so I eased off the biking today. It helped that it was raining cats and dogs all day, so I just took a cab to and from work. Laaaaazy. πŸ˜‰

Day 70 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 94.3kgs

Daily LOSS: 0.6kgs / 1.32lbs
Total loss: 5.6kgs /12.32lbs

Watercheck: 1.7l – though .9l of that was alcoholic beverages for my injured leg… excuses excuses… πŸ˜‰

Brunch

  • mug of coffee
  • oatbran porridge with sweetener

Dinner

  • Grilled beef burgers
  • stirfried cabbage with cream cheese, onion & garlic powder seasoning, along with lashings of pepper

Exercise

  • 50 mins cycling around town, plus to and from Derby practice
  • about 30 mins of skating max, before I fell wrong and twisted my ankle and knee. Grrr.

And the loss continues, yay!

I had a bad practice today at Derby – fell wrong and wrenched my knee, ankle, shin, calf, and everything in those areas. I’d not have even got 30 mins skating in before the bad fall, so I’m glad I wasn’t entirely relying on derby for my exercise today – I had to cycle into town and back to run some errands (and town is a lot further away post-house-move). I am NOT looking forward to getting to work tomorrow – either I take the bus, and walk 10-15 mins from my bus stop to work, or I cycle the full 20 mins. Cycling is less painful than walking, but tomorrow is due to be a very heavy rain day, and cycling in the rain is NOT fun.

Day 69 – Cruise PV

Morning weigh in: 94.9kgs

Daily LOSS: 1kgs / 2.2lbs
Total loss: 5kgs /11lbs

Watercheck: 1.6l

Brunch

  • 2x mugs of coffee
  • 3 low carb sausages
  • scrambled eggs
  • 3 grilled tomatoes (fresh from the greenhouse!)
  • 2 lean bacon medallions, grilled

Dinner

  • grilled chicken breast with Nandos Portugese BBQ marinade

Exercise

  • Lots of up and down stairs in my house, building flat-pack furniture.

Not much to report today, save for a “HELL YEAH”! Β The loss continues. I am pleased. πŸ™‚ I’m going skating tomorrow, so there’s some good exercise in the bag. Though I fear that, given I’ve not skated in a month, my muscles are going to take a beating, which generally means that they’ll be retaining water tomorrow morning as they heal. Och well. I’ve totally missed skating! πŸ™‚

Oh, one last thing – this was supposed to be a PV day, with the tomatoes at breakfast, but it just kinda didn’t work out that way. Our kitchen still isn’t really sorted out properly yet, though we’ve finally got a pantry in so we can start unpacking all the various cooking ingredients which have thus far remained in boxes scattered throughout the hall outside the kitchen. Once that pantry’s fixed to the wall, the cooking ingredients will be back in easy reach, and cooking might become easier again. Hurray!

I’ve had some requests to post photos of the new place – maybe this needs to be done Dukan-style, with before and after photos? πŸ˜‰ I’ll see what I can do.

Day 68 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 95.9kgs

Daily LOSS: 1.3kgs / 2.86lbs
Total loss: 4kgs /8.8lbs

Watercheck: 2.6l

Breakfast

  • mug of coffee
  • oatbran porridge with sweetener

Lunch

  • Leftover creamy chicken stew, with a lot of the leek and liquid removed – so less cornflour, yay!

Afternoon snack

  • 2x mugs of coffee

Dinner

  • grilled chicken thigh with Nandos Portugese BBQ marinade
  • a litre of diet cola sodastream mix – Maaaaan I had to pee like a racehorse after that one…

Exercise

  • 40 mins cycling to and from work

Nice. I really like that kind of weight loss Β after just a day of PP. It just goes to show (as SlimClau pointed out) that although the weight piles back on quickly after a carby meal, it equally comes off just as quickly – it’s just the water weight.

So, I’m starting to think that perhaps my daily commute isn’t as long or as hard work as I’d like it to be. I know that when I change jobs, it’s going to add an extra few miles to the round trip, but I also know that, in the words of House Stark, “Winter Is Coming.” The snows will be upon us soon, or so the weather forecasts keep telling us. The idea of cycling in the snow is not filling me with happiness. I will, however, attempt it, and see how I go. Fortunately the road I use is a main arterial road, and so hopefully they should have it cleared of snow. Either that, or it’ll be down to one lane and the bike lane will be totally covered up by a double dose of snow, once the snow plough pushes it all to the side. Joy…

PS – late publishing this, sorry. Should have published last night. πŸ™‚

Day 67 – Cruise PP

Morning weigh in: 97.2kgs

Total loss: 2.7kgs /5.94lbs

Watercheck: 1.2l

Breakfast

  • mug of coffee
  • oatbran porridge with sweetener

Lunch

  • package of mini satay sticks
  • 5 swedish meatballs

Afternoon snack

  • 2x mugs of coffee

Dinner

  • Creamy chicken stew, following this recipeΒ (thanks Maul!), but using cornflour instead of wheat flour, and leek instead of mushroom. It was a little too liquidy, needs work.

Exercise

  • 40 mins cycling to and from work

OK, so that was kinda expected. After 2-3 weeks of nothing but the worst kind of carbs, and minimal exercise, and I’m up more than 3kgs. Not to worry though – I’m feeling pretty motivated just now, and also did a nice big shop at Asda for plenty of MEAT! So hopefully I should do alright.

My daily commute to and from work is now significantly longer than before – if I reallyΒ push hard on the bike, I can get to work in just over 17 mins, and I arrive sweating. Same with going home, but for some reason it takes a little longer. I’m hoping that that will suffice for exercise for now. Starting from late November, the new job is perhaps a mile and a half further away, which will increase my commute-exercise a bit more. However, when the snows hit (which they’re predicting will happen as early as next week!) then cycling is going to get more difficult. I’m going to have to come up with an alternative, I think…

Day 66 – Re-determination day. :)

OK, so I have no more excuses. The house, while still being not-very-unpacked, is now at a state where things are getting more manageable. J and I have finally sorted out our desks in the office (very important for a pair of computer geeks) so I feel like life is a bit more under control.

Also? I found a job! Yay! πŸ™‚ It’s just about the perfect outcome – a nice redundancy payout, I get paid for my notice period but don’t have to work most of it (so get almost a month of pay to potter around the house and get my life in order) AND I walk straight into a new job with better pay and better development opportunities. It doesn’t really get much better than that.

So. I can’t use the excuse that I’m stressed out/looking for work/moving house. None of that washes now. And I really need to kick myself in the butt, because I have eaten mostly crap since I last blogged. We spent the evening erecting (*smarmy sniggering*) Ikea furniture, and had pizza to reward ourselves. Not good. It doesn’t help that the nearest shop is now a bit further away. The nearest shop is also one of Edinburgh’s biggest supermarkets, so nipping in for some chicken breasts is not a quick affair. Again, this is no excuse, it just means that I need to be more organised.

Last night, I had a Derby web committee meeting, and our lovely hostess made the most delish chicken and leek pie. I ate the crust, AND the potato. Bad Charlotte, no cookie. However, the filling was, I think very appropriate for Dukan. She shared the recipe with me, and I’m going to try it out with a few Dukan amendments, and see how we go. She’s also seen this blog and is determined to start Dukan tomorrow – another incentive for me to get back on the wagon. Hi Maul! πŸ™‚

So. Weigh-in tomorrow, post-pizza. It’s not gonna be pretty, I can tell you that. But you’re not judging, right? πŸ˜‰
